Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) Evaluation

Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) is the amount of energy expended while the body is at rest. You need to know your RMR if you want to effectively build lean muscle and reduce fat.

When you cut calories below your RMR, your body fights back. Restricting calories below your RMR too severely when trying to shed unwanted fat pounds will cause the adverse affect of slowing your metabolism causing you to retain the fat weight while losing the muscle you are trying to build. RMR also decreases with age with the loss of lean body mass. Increased muscle mass and cardiovascular exercise can increase RMR.

We can measure your RMR through indirect calorimetry, an analysis of your respiratory gas quotient, measuring your utilization of carbohydrates, fats and proteins as they are converted to energy. RMR testing sets a base line that can put your fitness program and nutrition plan in the right direction to greatly improve your results in building a leaner healthier body.
